Lapid: Shas has the country wound around its pinky
Journalist and new Atid party leader Yair Lapid attacked the Haredi political parties Wednesday during a speech at a conference at Sapir college.

"Shas, with 11 Knesset seats, has the country wound around its pinky," he said. Despite this, Lapid emphasized during his speech that he is not anti-Haredi. He noted that people look at him and define him by his father's anti-Haredi views. His father, Tommy Lapid, led the anti-religious Shinui party for a number of years.

Lapid added that he "does not want to separate religion and state, rather religion from politics."

Responding to what he would do if his new party is not successful in the next elections, he said that "this is my second career, and there will not be a third." If he was not initially successful, he said he would continue on "10 or even 20 years" until he can bring about change.
