Iraq: Israel carrying out 'massacres' in Lebanon
07/31/2006
Iraq's Vice President Adel Abdul-Mahdi on Monday accused Israel of carrying out "massacres" in Lebanon, singling out Sunday's IAF airstrike that killed at least 56 in the village of Kana. "What happened in Kana is a repetition to these crimes that happened to our nation decades ago. It's time for this nation to stand up and stop this aggression and all forms of aggression that could affect any of its parts," Abdul-Mahdi said. "These horrible massacres carried out by the Israeli aggression, incite in us the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity," continued Abdul-Mahdi, in a speech attended by Iraq's President Jalal Talabani, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other government officials. Separately, about 200 people, mostly Shiite women draped in the traditional black Islamic garb, demonstrated in the eastern Baghdad slum of Sadr City in support of Hizbullah, burning American and Israeli flags.
