Sharansky calls for unity in face of antisemitism sweeping across US

Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the wave of antisemitic attacks and threats that have swept across the US in recent weeks.

"If ever there was a line between the antisemitism of the far right and the anti-Israelism of the radical left, the demonization of Jews and the demonization of their state, it no longer exists," he said in a statement.

"These two ugly phenomena feed on one another and both run counter to the foundations of democratic societies in Europe and America," he continued.

"It is high time that all who hold democratic values dear put their political differences aside and band together to combat these expressions of hatred and violence."

Jewish Community Centers, Jewish day schools and offices of the Anti-Defamation League have faced multiple waves of bomb threats since January, with a total of 89 incidents at 72 locations in 30 states and 1 Canadian province. In addition, two Jewish cemeteries were vandalized in the past week, in St. Louis and Philadelphia.

Sharanksy expressed faith that the US authorities will "act resolutely" to find the perpetrators, bring them to justice, and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
