MK Yitzhaki: Suspension won't prevent impeachment
JPost.com Staff
01/25/2007
Kadima MK Avigdor Yitzhaki said during the Knesset session on President Moshe Katsav's request for temporary suspension that a vote in favor of the president's request would not prevent Knesset members from working to force Katsav to resign. In his comments, Yitzhaki said that Katsav "should not serve as president for one more day" and that steps should be taken to start a legal impeachment process as quickly as possible. MKs Zehava Gal-On and Yoram Marciano have been working to get 90 signatures from Knesset members on a petition to impeach the president. Yitzhaki concluded by saying that he would vote in favor of Katsav's temporary suspension and that he would also sign the petition.
