Two UNIFIL road accident victims honored in Beirut
03/08/2007
UN peacekeepers staged a farewell ceremony at Beirut airport Thursday for two Belgian soldiers who died in a road accident in south Lebanon a day earlier. The Belgians were driving an armoured personnel carrier near the village of Kfar Chouba when the accident occurred Wednesday. The UN has not revealed what happened, saying it is under investigation, but witnesses have said the vehicle overturned. Two other peacekeepers were injured. The ceremony was attended by the UNIFIL commander, Gen. Claudio Graziano of Italy, the Belgian ambassador to Lebanon and Lebanese officials.
