The government's goal was to use the deal to improve Prime Minister's Benjamin Netanyahu's image before the upcoming elections, according to the report.
Hamas officials said that Israel has indirectly contacted the Palestinian terror organization in order to reach a prisoner exchange deal, according to a report by Channel 12 News Saturday.

The government's goal was to use the deal to improve Prime Minister's Benjamin Netanyahu's image before the upcoming elections, according to the report.

"The Israeli government has manipulated the public time and time again, but this time it seems that their desire to complete a prisoner exchange before the upcoming elections is strong, especially in light of the strong opposition the current Israeli government is facing," Hamas officials said.

The officials stressed that Hamas will not change its negotiating position.
