Anya Gostomelsky breaks Israel's 100m backstroke record in Beijing

Israel's only female swimmer in Beijing, Anya Gostomelsky, broke the Israeli 100m backstroke record Sunday afternoon, with a time of 1:01:87.
Despite this result, Gostomelsky will not proceed to the semifinals in the Olympic Games.
Gostomelsky, who made aliya at the age of 10 from the Ukraine, won a bronze medal at the European Short Course Championships in 2006 (50m backstroke) and has finished as high as seventh in the continent's long course championships (100m backstroke in 2004).
