Soccer legend Avi Cohen was still in critical condition at Ichilov Hospital on Tuesday night, a day after being gravely injured in a motorcycle accident in Ramat Gan.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was one of the many well wishers who called or visited Cohen’s family on Tuesday, but according to doctors there is still only a small chance of the former Maccabi Tel Aviv and Liverpool defender recovering from Monday’s auto accident.
“Miracles can happen,” said Cohen’s son, Tamir, who arrived from England where he plays for Bolton Wanderers early Tuesday morning.
“We are all praying for him and hopefully he will wake up.”
Cohen’s tragedy didn’t go unnoticed at Liverpool, the club he helped to the English championship in the 1979/80 season.
“Liverpool FC would like to extend their best wishes to Avi Cohen,” a press release read. “The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Avi and his family at this difficult time and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
