Shay Doron made history Thursday night when she became the first Israeli to play in the WNBA. The 22-year-old guard, who became the first Israeli woman to be selected in the WNBA draft on April 4, was on court for a minute and 44 seconds for the New York Liberty during their 81-76 victory over the Washington Mystics at New York's Madison Square Garden. Doron attempted no shots, grabbed no rebounds and committed one foul. Erin Thorn and Shameka Christon scored 17 points each to lead the Liberty to its first 2-0 start of a season since 1999. Alana Beard scored 23 points and DeLisha Milton-Jones had 14 points and eight rebounds for Washington, which opened the season 0-3 for the first time since 1998. Chasity Melvin's putback gave the Mystics a 76-75 lead with 1:43 to go, but Washington was held scoreless the rest of the way. AP contributed to this report.
