Brief: Junior hockey team stays perfect

The national junior ice hockey team posted its third straight victory at the International Ice Hockey Federation Division III World Championships in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, on Thursday. In two lopsided victories over Turkey (14-3) and Bulgaria (14-1) earlier in the week, Daniel Erlich was Israel's leading offensive threat with seven goals and nine assists. Thursday's 8-5 win came against South Africa, a team that was relegated from Division II last year. Israel's next opponent, Romania, also fell from the higher division in 2005. The tournament hosts have been rolling, recording an 18-0 victory over Bulgaria and a 14-0 win over New Zealand. "We're hoping for our own 'Miracle on Ice' against Romania", said Alan Maislin, the chairman of the Israel Ice Hockey Federation, from Romania. Israel's final game will be against New Zealand on Sunday.
