Dudi Sela defeated Andreas Seppi 6-3, 7-5, 1-6, 3-6, 6-3 in the first match of Israel's
Davis Cup tie against Italy at the Ramat Hasharon Tennis Center on Friday.
After taking a two-set lead, Sela (No. 202 in the ATP singles rankings) was treated for
an injury to his left leg during the third set, and dropped the next two sets to the
higher-ranked Seppi (91).
Sela's victory gave Israel a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five Europe/Africa Zone Group 1 tie.
Noam Okun (171) was due to face Simone Bolli (111) in the second match of the tie, which
will determine which country advances to a World Group playoff, later Friday.
