Former Olympic boxer Yehuda Ben-Haim died on Monday at the age of 46 after a battle with serious illness.
Ben-Haim represented Israel in the Light Fly Weight (under 48 kg) category at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, ending the event in ninth position after winning his first round fight.
In 1986, Ben-Haim finished the World Championships in sixth place and he was also set to represent Israel at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, only to be disqualified from the event after choosing not to show up for his first round fight as it was scheduled for Yom Kippur. “This is a huge loss for Israeli boxing,” said Israel Boxing Association CEO William Shahade.
