France, Argentina into Davis Cup quarterfinals

Switzerland could face Israel in September’s playoffs.

France advanced to the Davis Cup semifinals Saturday when Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won in the doubles to give their team an unassailable 3-0 lead over Germany.
Llodra and Tsonga beat Christopher Kas 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4.
France will play either Spain or the United States in the semis, with the Spaniards having led the Americans 2-0 going into Saturday night’s doubles in Austin, Texas.
Argentina also completed its progress to the last four with a 5-0 win over Kazakhstan, while defending champion Serbia leads Swedan 2-1.
Meanwhile, Switzerland qualified for the World Group playoffs after taking a 3-0 lead over Portugal in Bern thanks to Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka’s 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win over Frederico Gil and Lonardo Tavares.
