Israel's representatives in the Neil Pryde World Windsurfing Championships had a mediocre opening day on Sunday at Lake Garda in Trentino, Italy. Olympic champion Gal Fridman finished fourth and eighth in his group and is in 20th place overall. The 164 male surfers were split into four equal groups, with the 80 women contestants split into two groups. The World Championships in Italy are the first to be held since the International Sailing Federation chose to change from the Mistral board to the Neil Pryde model. Fridman won the gold medal in Athens on a mistral board and will be eager to prove that he is a world beater with the new model as well. Nimrod Mashiah ended Sunday's races in ninth and 16th place and ended the day in 45th place overall, nine places ahead of Sahar Tzubari who finished in 16th and 14th. Israel's best finisher on Sunday was in the women's competition where former world champion Lee Korzits is placed in 17th overall after finishing Sunday's races in 17th and second place. Maayan Davidovich finished in 20th and 17th and is in 35th after the first day of competition.
