Penticon handed Dimona their first loss of the season 5-2 with some masterful pitching by Ami Biran, who struck out 11 while keeping the Dimona side off the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth. Marc Bodner was a defensive force at second base and Daniel Maddy scored twice from the leadoff spot to lead Penticon. Meanwhile, Eilat took their second National Championship in three years with a dominating five wins without a loss at the Junior Men's Softball tournament at Park Yarkon in Petah Tikva last week. Rehovot finished in second place with a record of 3-3 and Beka'at Beit Shean was third, winless in 5 games. Eilat came through unscathed using outstanding pitching, good hitting and aggressive baserunning. Eilat and National Team number one pitcher Boris Yegudayev faced Rehovot three times and proved up to the task. The run spreads decreased in each game - 22-3, 14-5, and in the final, 14-9, with Yegudayev allowing 8 hits, 7 walks and striking out 6. Rehovot had some great scoring opportunities, but stranded 13 in the 7 inning contest. The Eilat attack was led by Jason Danto with 2 RBI singles, 2 walks and 3 runs scored. Roy Even's magnificent bunt down the first base line scoring 2 in the 5th put the game out of reach. Michael Marunov led the Rehovot batting with a triple and a home run. Yegudayev was the Eilat and tournament MVP, while Daya and Daniel Hoffman, who fractured his ankle sliding into home in the Final, were Rehovot's co-MVPs and Moshe Hyde was the top BBS player.
