Games We Play: Flag Football - The Green Mile/IDT Global finishes first round ranked No. 1
Ranking due to its plus-213 point differential - a whopping 35.5-point average margin of victory.
By JERUSALEM POST STAFFThe Green Mile/IDT Global defeated Jump Gym 51-0 in week 9 of the American Football in Israel's 2006/07 men's contact league at Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem on Friday.
The Green Mile/IDT Global, Wizard World/Phones4Less and Big Blue all finished the first round of the regular season with perfect 6-0 records. The Green Mile/IDT Global is ranked No. 1 due to its plus-213 point differential - a whopping 35.5-point average margin of victory, followed by Wizard World/Phones4Less (+191) and Big Blue (+119).
The top 32 teams of the 57-team league have been split into eight four-team groups for a three-game, round-robin second round, which begins on Friday.
Hadassah Lions upset Dr. Ari Greenspans
The Hadassah Lions defeated the Dr. Ari Greenspans 14-8 in week seven of the Women's American Football in Israel league at Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem on Wednesday last week.
Touchdowns were scored by Talia Stein and Hannah Grossman. Stein also scored two extra points, and on defense, Grossman made one interception.
Eden's Eagles 40, Paige's Lakers 6
Eden's Eagles' Michal Fuld, Davida Schiff and Ariel Frankston-Morris each scored touchdowns, and Steph Reiderman had three. Frankston-Morris scored three extra points, and Schiff scored one. On defense, interceptions were made by Fuld, Schiff, and Debra Friedman.
Misha'an Plumbers 64, Nativ 0
The Plumbers' Rachel Shmidman, Ahuva Odenheimer and Esti Bernstien each scored touchdowns, Bernstien's being off an interception. Yael Freedman recorded an impressive four TDs. Quarterback Shana Sprung ran one in for a TD as well. Extra points were scored by Odenheimer, Bernstien and Freedman, and Odenheimer and Bernstien each caught twopoint conversion receptions. On defense, interceptions were made by Michal Hartman (1), Odenheimer (2), Bernstien (1) and Freedman (5).
Trumanettes 33, Mary Janes 0
The Trumanettes' Adena Brickman scored three touchdowns, and Sarit Baily and Elissa Sagoskin each scored one. Jessica Sara Sagoskin also scored a touchdown, which she ran back after intercepting an attempted deep pass by the MJ quarterback. Interceptions were also made by "Brick" and Baily, and two by Elissa. Baily also caught a pass for an extra point, and Jessica Sara caught two.
Diamonds.com 38, Arnona Bombers 7
Diamonds.com's Emily Neilson scored four touchdowns, and Penina Rappaport scored two TDs. Neilson also made two interceptions on defense, as well as catching an extra point. Other extra points were scored by Sarit Rapp and Penina Rappaport.
Weitzman surprises Briut Modiin
In what many thought would be an easy Briut Modiin win, Weitzman pulled off an amazing 39-21 upset in week 8 of the Yosef Goodman High School American Football in Israel season at Kraft Family Stadium on Tuesday, December 12.
On offense, Weitzman quarterback Din Baltiansky threw four touchdowns - two to Tiran Koren, and one to Uri Cohen and Ari Ben Zeev - and no interceptions. Ehud Kashi and Uri Cohen both ran for touchdowns. On defense, Ehud led the attack with seven sacks and Uri recorded three interceptions.
Yad Eliezer 28, Tankers 13
Yad Eliezer's Yus "The Bus" Friedman had one sack, Dov Solomont had an interception for a touchdown, Chanan Kupietsky had two TDs, and Avi Ettinger had a TD.
Iron Men 19, Dad Theyr'e Killing Us 12
Dad They're Killing Us and Iron Men fought down to the wire. Iron Men Ayal Kahn and Nachi Nathan led the defense with critical flag pulls and great coverage. After a DTKU touchdown, Sammy Tover returned the extra-point attempt to make the score 6-2. With under three minutes left, Iron Men QB Noam Lipshitz threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Tover to make it 12-10. Lipshitz hooked up with Chaim Katz for a 40-yard gain to set up the TD pass to Tover that won the game as time ran out.
Jaffe Strategies 21, Jewish Press 18
Jaffe Strategies gave Jewish Press its first loss of the season. Jaffe QB Gavi Teitz threw two touchdown passess, including one to Yehuda Baker and one to Rafi Jaffe. On defense, Yehuda sparked the team with an early interception returned for a TD. Rafi Jaffe had four interceptions, as well, and Justin Hess had one. Justin also recorded seven sacks. Also last week in the Yosef Goodman HSAFI, it was: Hunki's Pizza 25, Hartman 21.
METV storms back to beat Runnin' Rabbis
After trailing by 15 points (39-24) midway through the second half, METV scored 25 unanswered points to beat the HUV Runnin' Rabbis 49-39 in week 7 of the Tuesday Night Football League at Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem on December 12. METV's Noam Rozenman led the comeback, finishing the game with four touchdown receptions and a crucial interception late in the game. Also last week in the TNFL, it was: Kfar Zippori 60, Pardes 12.
