Games we play: Ossip and Taylor, Berold and Mukmel impress at pairs

The pairs of Mike Ossip and Steve Taylor and George Berold and Jackie Mukmel on 40 Stableford points had the best scores in the first qualifying round of the International Pairs held at the Ga'ash Golf club on Tuesday. Close behind on 39 points were Itzik Edelman and Gil Bianco as well as Yehoshua Shponder and Moshe Shlomovitz. The competition is to decide which pair will win the grand prize to play in the International Pairs final to be held at on the Dukes Course at the prestigious St Andrews golf compound in Scotland in September. In Tuesday's tournament, sponsored by Rolex and UBank, 12 teams went through to the final and the next 12 will come from the next qualifying round to be held on the 23rd of July at Ga'ash Golf. The format of the tournament was a "Better-Ball Stableford" competition, 75% handicap and 30 pairs participated in this round. The fairways and greens are now in excellent condition and with the rough grown longer, the course was prepared to perfection by the Ga'ash ground crew. With the warm weather conditions and the tough course, good scoring was a difficult achievement. Nearest to the Pin prizes, sponsored by the "Wine Center" at Ga'ash went to: Hole 4, par 3, 120 meters - Amos Raz coming just 84 cm to the pin Hole 9, par 3, 160 meters - (playing into a strong cross wind) Brian Cooper with 4.58m from the pin Hole 14, par 3, 164 meters - (difficult pin position) Rafi Tzorfati, 8.6m from the pin. The members are now looking forward to the twilight tournament to be held on July 12.
