Games we play: Penticon remains undefeated

Penticon goes 3-0 in Israel Softball Association's Babe Gillett Fast-pitch Fall Tournament.

Penticon went to 3-0 in the Israel Softball Association's Babe Gillett Fast-pitch Fall Tournament with a convincing 15-4 victory over Tri United. Ami Baran pitched a perfect game into the fourth, Howie Hirsch hit for the cycle and Dan Marcus went 5-for-5 to lead Penticon. Shem Tov Shapiro had two hits, including a double, and Sandor Joffe stroked a RBI double, while centerfielder Mark Chass was the defensive star for Tri United, throwing out two runners on the base paths. Second baseman Ronen Menashe, making his debut, started a double play by snaring a line drive and doubling the runner off first. Itai Meyerfeld, 15, banged out three hits and played a fine second base for Penticon. Triple T 16, Elmhurst Dairy Farmers 8 Shlomi Dahan, 17, had the first three hits of his career, scored three runs and batted in two and Clay Steelman went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles to lead Triple T over Elmhurst. Triple T jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first and scored in every inning, putting the nail in the coffin with five in the fifth. The Triple T defense looked shaky until Moshe Hyde showed up in the third inning at which point it became spectacular. Tim Cummings snared a looper over his head at third base and then doubled the runner off second, Micah Winston had a full-sprawl diving catch in center field and catcher Eitan Milgram threw a runner out at third. Yosi Ajzenwaser pitched well, allowing only five runs and striking out five in four innings and Adir Hagbi, who survived a rocky fifth, got a 1-2-3 seventh with Cummings, Hyde and Rob Barasch each making outstanding plays on grounders around the infield. Lavey Friedman had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice, Mor had two hits, Darius Schwartz scored three runs and Adam Fishman had a neat sliding catch in left field for the Dairy Farmers. Magic Gezer 20,Otsma Eilat 7 Eilat jumped out to a 6-1 lead against Blair Portnoy, but Magic Gezer quickly came back, roughing up three Eilat pitchers and racing around the bases. The star of the game was Eitan Frankel, who had four hits, four runs and four RBI's. Portnoy allowed only two earned runs while walking none, and his son Tomer caught everything in center field. Jayson Danto went 4-for-4 in his debut for Eilat and Dr. Greg Elliot tripled.
