Games We Play - Soccer: Renaissance to meet Mekor in final

Team enjoys an emphatic victory over rivals Club Med.

Renaissance booked its place in the Jerusalem soccer league final after defeating Club Med 3-0, setting up a heavyweight clash against Mekor Rishon, which saw off Derech 3-1 in the semifinals over the weekend. Renaissance produced an outstanding first half display which gave them an emphatic victory over rivals Club Med. Solid defending from Leib Ziskin and Yakov Nussbaum and creative genius from Bini Seider allowed Gedalia Aurbach to open the scoring. Renaissance continued to dominate and push forward and was rewarded with a Neil Rubinstein strike and Aurbach's second. After the break, Club Med finally got its passing together and created many chances, only to be denied by Renaissance 'keeper Binyomin Nussbaum. Meanwhile, Derech's cup dream ended in an end-to-end encounter against Mekor. In a fastpaced match, both teams passed well, while the defenses kept the scoreline goalless. In the second half, Michael Chalamish led a Mekor attack that ended with a David Ramati volley into the far corner of the net. Soon after, Mekor doubled its lead as Amitai Pivko skipped past three challenges before unleashing a strike into the Derech goal. Then, Judah Taub made it 3-0 with a clever finish. Not giving up, Derech fought back, but Adam Grossman's goal was too little, too late.
