Penticon and the Tigers both clinched their place in the Israel Softball Association's Babe Gillett Fast-pitch Fall Tournament Championship game with wins last week. Penticon 10, Magic Gezer 1 Ami Baran pitched masterfully, working his way out of jam after jam. Tom Haskell led off the first with a triple and The Gezerites loaded the bases with no outs, but could manage only one run. They put runners in scoring position almost every inning but Baran held tight. Brothers David (5-5, triple, three runs, two RBI's) and Brian (triple, two runs) led the Penticon offense. The Penticon defense was errorless and right fielder Brian threw out a runner at first on an apparent single. Penticon finished the round-robin stage with a perfect 7-0 record. Tigers 18, Tri United 1 Goose Gillett pitched 42⁄3 magnificent no-hit innings, Gilad Lazar homered twice in the park, including one grand slam, and Dror Gal hit a home run over the fence in an 18-1, five-inning rout of Tri United. Shem Tov Shapiro broke up the no-hitter with a line single to right and later scored on an error. The Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first and never looked back. Gillett, forced to pitch due to an injury to Tigers #1 hurler Ilan Spira, allowed only two hits and one walk in his second start of the tournament.
