Games We Play: Transplant Olympics

Seven hundred heart and lung transplant recipients from all over the world take part in the Games.

Ze'ev Vigdor, a lung transplant recipient, won the gold medal in the golf tournament at the Heart and Lung Transplant Olympics in Naples, Italy, last week. Seven hundred heart and lung transplant recipients from all over the world took part in the Games, which are held every two years. Vigdor, 66, a member of the Caesarea Golf Club, received a lung transplant at the Beilinson Hospital five years ago and serves as chairman of the Israel Transplant Society. The Israeli delegation was made up of 22 representatives, of whom 14 competed in the Games, including world swimming champion Momo Givoni, heart and lung transplantee, and Yehuda Yisraeli, the oldest competitor in the games at over 80, who participated in the four-kilometer marathon and received a medal of honor.
