Guide to Israel's Olympic Team: Arik Ze'evi

Arik Ze'evi realized his lifelong dream in Athens four years ago when he beat Dutchman Elco Van Der Geest in the men's 100kg competition to win the bronze medal. That victory more than made up for the bitter disappointment of finishing fifth at the Sydney Games in 2000, but the 31-year-old is still hungry for more Olympic glory in Beijing. A three-time European champion, Ze'evi proved in April that he'd recovered from a career-threatening shoulder injury, winning a European bronze medal in Lisbon. According to Ze'evi, some 10 judokas have a good chance of winning a medal in his class at these Olympics, which is another reason why his quest for a medal next Thursday will be one of the highlights of the Games for Israelis.
