Hapoel hopes revive BSL campaign

Despite advancing to the quarterfinals of the Eurocup with a 111-98 victory over Galatasaray, in local league play J'lem loses two of its last three games.

For all its surprising success in the Eurocup, Hapoel Jerusalem has been floundering in the BSL in recent weeks.
Jerusalem advanced to the quarterfinals of the Eurocup with a 111-98 victory over Galatasaray in Turkey last Tuesday, but in local league play it has lost two of its last three games, falling into a three-way tie for second position in the standings.
Both Hapoel Holon and Barak Netanya edged Jerusalem at the Malha Arena in the past three weeks, meaning Hapoel has already lost three home games this season after going unbeaten at Malha in last season’s BSL campaign.
Somewhat surprisingly, Guy Goodes’s men have only lost twice in eight league games on the road so far this season, a record they will be desperate to improve when they visit Ironi Nahariya on Sunday.
Nahariya has only won once in its last five games, and with a mere four victories throughout the season is only one win ahead of rock-bottom Ironi Ramat Gan.
Maccabi Haifa hosts Barak Netanya on Sunday in a battle for a top-four finish and home-court advantage in the quarterfinal playoffs.
Haifa is 6-1 at home this season, but Netanya, the surprise of theyear, has won its last three games, including last week’s victory overJerusalem at Malha.
Also Sunday, Hapoel Holon hosts Hapoel Gilboa/Galil, Ironi Ramat Ganvisits Ironi Ashkelon and Bnei Hasharon welcomes Maccabi Rishon Lezion.
