Hapoel Jerusalem shocks Montepaschi in Siena

Hapoel Jerusalem has pulled off yet another escape act. With its back against the wall and its European season on the line, Dan Shamir's team produced an impressive 91-85 win over Montepaschi Siena in a ULEB Cup Group C clash in Italy on Tuesday night. "It's a very important win," Dan Shamir commented. "But it's also frustrating to lose games we don't deserve to lose. We also have had our share of bad games and something has to be done to rectify this problem." Jerusalem failed to impress in the first half, with the Italians developing a 52-48 halftime lead. But Jerusalem rallied back to tie it at 72-72 with 8:23 minutes left in the final period. Meir Tapiro hit a crucial three-pointer down the stretch. Mario Austin was the go-to man for the Israeli squad and finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tamar Slay was solid on defense and also recorded 14 points and 6 rebounds. Timmy Bowers added 16 points.
