It was a wild Thursday night of football in the capital as more than 200 points were scored over the course a Kraft Family IFL Week 3 doubleheader that saw a pair of host teams record their first conquests of the young 2009/10 season. In the opening match of the evening, the Papagaio Jerusalem Kings ran roughshod over the Beersheva Black Swarm, 70-26, behind 222 rushing yards and five touchdowns from star running back Jon Rubin. In the nightcap, the Judean Rebels jumped out to a large lead before withstanding a furious comeback by the visiting Real Housing Haifa Underdogs to capture a 58-52 victory. The Rebels (1-1) got a pair of long kick returns for touchdowns from Mo English and quarterback Joe Martisius threw for three more scores in the win. Put bluntly, Judea's postmatch sideline celebration said it all, as all the hard work put in by the first-year franchise finally was rewarded. The Kings (1-1), as well, were thrilled with their effort and now have a three-week break before their next game. The IFL gets back to the field this weekend with a FridaySaturday slate. First, the Mike's Place Tel Aviv Sabres (1-0) travel south to face the Black Swarm (0-2), followed the next night by an Israel Bowl rematch in Modi'in between the Big Blue Jerusalem Lions (1-0) and the Dancing Camel Modi'in Pioneers (1-1).
