For the first time ever, a team of three lady golfers will represent Israel at the upcoming World Amateur Team Championships which will take place this year in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 16-23.Members of the team are as follows: Laetitia Beck – Israel’s Champion Lady and Junior golfer 2009 and the gold medalist at the 18th Maccabiah.Beck is currently ranked No. 4 in Ladies’ European Amateur rankings and recently joined the Blue Devils Women’s Golf Team at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina,.Hadas Libman – Israel Lady’s Amateur Open Champion 2008 and recently placed second at the Latvian Lady’s Open 2010.Petra Bogoslavski – Currently No. 3 ranked lady golfer in Israel and who in the past has had much success in the junior and ladies golf in Brazil.The team will be accompanied by Cyril Kaufman who will act as non-playing team captain. Kaufman represented Israel as playing team captain at the World Amateur Team Championships in Vancouver in 1992.“I’m thrilled with the selection of our team,” said Kaufman. “We have three players who have a great deal of talent. They are all very proud to be chosen to represent Israel and will do a wonderful job doing so.”The biennial competition has been played since 1964, with the winner taking home the Espirito Santo Trophy.Sweden is the defending champion, having won the 2008 title in Australia.A record 55 teams from around the world have entered the 2010 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship, which will be determined by four days of stroke play. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores by players from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day total is the team’s score for the championship.Also on the local links, the GPS Advertising Company Invitational took place in a festive atmosphere last Wednesday at the Ga’ash Golf Club, with the late afternoon shot-gun start treating the players to a beautifully groomed course.The format of the tournament was individual stableford played over nine holes.First prize, which was air tickets for two to Europe sponsored by Arkia, was won by Atzi Peters, who finished with 23 stableford points.In second place, winning a week car rental from ShlomoSixt was David Ashkinazi, on 20 points.Yerucham Shafat came in third with 19 points and will enjoy a free weekend at the Golan Hotel.Nearest-to-the-Pin prizes, sponsored by Ishpar & Igo, went to Len Marks and Norma Kaufman.Ga’ash Golf is looking forward to its September monthly medal, which will also be used as the trials to choose the team that will play in the first ever competitive golf match against Golf Caesarea.LAETITIA BECK, who was recently name on Golf Week’s ‘Players Watch in 2010’ list and is ranked by the magazine as the NCAA’s third-best freshman, will headline Israel’s team to next month’s World Amateur Team Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
