West Ham signed Israel striker Yaniv Katan from Maccabi Haifa on Monday for 3 1/2 years.
The 24-year-old will be eligible to play from January 1, providing he passes a medical test and obtains a work permit.
"The chance to sign a player of his quality was a great opportunity for West Ham and one that we could not miss," West Ham manager Alan Pardew said. "His signing represents a good deal for the club."
Katan played with Hammers and Israel forward Yossi Benayoun at Haifa.
Katan made his international debut at 19 against Hungary in 2000, and has scored four goals for Israel in 20 matches.
