Ido Kozikaro became the first major signing of the year for Ironi Nahariya Thursday, inking a two-year deal.
The former Hapoel Jerusalem big man leaves the capital after three seasons, during which he helped the team capture the ULEB Cup in 2004.
Kozikaro, who will be 28 next week, is the first part of coach Ariel Bet-Halahmi and general manager Mickey Berkowitz's new-look team. Due to the situation in the North, Berkowitz has decided to focus solely on signing top-notch Israelis for now, rather than trying to convince foreigners that it would be safe to play in Nahariya.
Kozikaro joins Barak Peleg, who is returning for his fourth season in Nahariya, as the players that Berkowitz will look to build around.
The move leaves Jerusalem short up front. The club will look to sign another Israeli big man in his place, with former player Amit Tamir among the possibilities.
