Maccabi Tel Aviv will have an ideal opportunity to put Thursday night's humiliating Euroleague loss against Zalgiris Kaunas behind it when it faces Hapoel Afula/Gilboa in the BSL on Sunday. Tel Aviv is vastly superior to Afula/Gilboa in every facet of the game and will be looking to claim a confidence boosting win against a struggling opponent ahead of its crucial game against Real Madrid on Thursday. Hapoel has lost four of its last five league games and is in serious danger of losing its BSL status if it doesn't improve its play dramatically. Maccabi Rishon Lezion, which is tied on points with Afula/Gilboa, will look to end its three game losing streak when it hosts Hapoel Jerusalem on Sunday. Jerusalem was humbled in its last two league games, losing to Hapoel Holon and Maccabi Tel Aviv by an average 17.5 points. The State Cup holder was, however, very impressive against Besiktas JK in the last 32 of the ULEB Cup last Tuesday and showed yet again that on any given night its performance can range from the ridiculous to the sublime. Ironi Nahariya hosts Ironi Ramat Gan on Sunday in a game between two teams vying for a Final Four berth. Nahariya and Ramat Gan, which are tied on 20 points with Hapoel Holon and Hapoel Jerusalem, both desperately need a win on Sunday to boost their chances of sneaking into the season ending tournament. Nahariya lost 80-75 to Hapoel Galil Elyon last week and has only won twice in its last six games. Ramat Gan, on the other hand, defeated Rishon 98-93 last week and has won five of its last seven games. Also Sunday, Ironi Ashkelon hosts Hapoel Galil Elyon. On Monday, third-placed Hapoel Holon hosts second-placed Bnei Hasharon.
