Local Soccer: Betar J'lem suspends striker Toto Tamuz

Club says move is a result of "remarks" made by Tamuz after Sunday night's win over Ashdod SC.

Betar Jerusalem striker Toto Tamuz has been suspended by the club indefinitely following "comments" made after Sunday night's 2-1 win over Ashdod SC. Tamuz, 20, was visibly disappointed when he was substituted for Amit Ben-Shushan in the 73rd minute on Sunday, ten minutes after setting up what turned out to be the winning goal for Aviram Bruchian with a classy cross. In a statement the club was unspecific as to the nature of the comments made, saying simply that, "As a result of remarks made by Toto Tamuz the club's management has decided to suspend him until further notice." According to local media reports Tamuz complained to the media after the game that the reason he was substituted was that coach Itzhak Schum was concerned about the reactions of midfielder Idan Tal, Derek Boateng so preferred not to take them off. Tamuz's future will be decided on Tuesday when he will stand before an internal Betar disciplinary comittee. Betar has begun preparing for the annual Channel One Cup tournament which kicks off Wednesday when the Israeli side takes on Ukranian champion Shakhtar Donetsk. Betar is the only representative in the six-team tournament which will also include both CSKA and Spartak Moscow and Dinamo Kiev.
