Maccabi Tel Aviv will take part in the first ever ULEB Summer League, which will run from June 28 to Sunday July 1 in Jesolo, Italy. It is still unclear which players will be flying out to Italy. But the squad, which will be guided by assistant coach Guy Goodes, is not expected to include any of Tel Aviv's current players. Among the Euroleague clubs participating in the Summer League are Zalgiris Kaunas, Benetton Treviso, Olimpija Ljubljana, Lottomatica Roma and two teams of free agents. Hapoel Jerusalem was invited to the event, but declined, explaining that it wouldn't be able to put together a reasonable squad for the tournament. A team representing the Chinese Basketball Association will be taking part and will make the first appearance of its kind in Europe. The eight participating teams will play a total of 16 games over four days. In addition to the new tournament, there will be important off-season events in the Jesolo area throughout the weekend, including the regular season group draws for 2007-08 in both the Euroleague and the ULEB Cup. Euroleague Basketball's board and general assembly will also be in session, while Euroleague Basketball coaches and referees department will meet as part of their ongoing series of discussions about officiating.
