Shahar Pe’er progressed to her seventh quarterfinal of the year on Wednesday, beating Yaroslava Shvedova 7-5, 6-4 to reach the last eight of the Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego.The 23-year-old Israeli, ranked 17th in the world and seeded No. 7 in San Diego, lost her serve some six times, but managed to win in straight sets by breaking the Kazakh on eight occasions.Pe’er will next face the winner of the match between Agnieszka Radwanska (10) and Dinara Safina (35), looking to reach her sixth semifinal of the season.Meanwhile, in other action, Vera Zvonareva won in her first match since finishing as the Wimbledon runner-up, beating Dominika Cibulkova 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.
