Alice Schlesinger proved once again on Saturday that she is one of Israeli sports' top athletes, claiming the gold medal at the judo European Under-23 Championships. After cruising through her first three fights of the event, the 21-year-old defeated Ukrainian Oskana Didenko in the final of the under-63 kilogram competition in Antalya, Turkey, winning her third major medal of the year. In April, Schlesinger claimed a second straight bronze medal at the European Judo Championships, before becoming the fourth Israeli to claim a medal at the World Championships in August, finishing third in Rotterdam. Schlesinger has also previously won a gold medal at the 2007 European Junior Championships and a bronze at the World Junior Championships in 2005, and is looking like one of Israel's best medal hopes ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.
