Guy Starik came tantalizingly close to making the final of the 50 meter rifle prone competition at the Beijing Shooting Range Hall on Friday, missing out on a tiebreaker.
The 43-year-old finished tied on 594 points with six shooters including Valerian Sauveplane, who advanced to the final from eighth position, and only failed to progress as his final series wasn't as good as the Frenchman's.
In fact, had Starik scored 10 and not 9 in his final shot of the qualifiers he would have made his first ever Olympic final.
"I shot very well and recorded a good result," said Starik, who finished in 12th place overall. "Until my final four attempts I was in with a shot at the medals, but unfortunately I recorded two nines.
"I will compete in London 2012 at the age of 47. I still have a lot to contribute to Israeli sport and I proved this today," he added.
Gil Simkovitch finished in 22nd place with a score of 592.
