Soccer club suspended over fake Jewish players

Holy Mount Zion football club registers at least 2 players under fake Jewish-sounding names, report says.

A team in an English Jewish soccer league was suspended recently after league officials discovered it was fielding Gentile ringers.
The Holy Mount Zion football club registered at least two players under fake Jewish-sounding names, discovered after a referee heard teammates calling them by “non-Jewish names,” The Daily Telegraph reported.
Holy Mount Zion players were registered as Danny Potter and Simon Laub but were overheard being called “Mariusz” and “Javier” by a referee during a recent game.
In the wake of the incident, the Maccabi League has been thrown into some disarray as other players’ Jewish heritage is now being questioned, according to the report.
