The group of Hapoel Jerusalem supporters planning to set up an alternative has given fans an extra week to show their support.
Uri Sheradsky, one of the leaders of the group aiming to create a new team called Hapoel Katamon, had said he would give up on the project if he and the other organizers were unable to raise NIS 500,000 by Monday, July 16.
However, on Tuesday Sheradsky said he is extending his deadline to next Wednesday as religious fans have been reticent to become involved in major business deals until after the Tisha B'Av fast day which ends Tuesday night.
Sheradsky confirmed that after a meeting of supporters, held in Jerusalem's Blanco bar on Monday, NIS 400,000 has been raised. But, he said, the organizers have a "contract" with the fans that they will only go ahead with the plans if they are able to attract enough support.
"I have extended the deadline so we now have a week for 100 people to come forward," Sheradsky told The Jerusalem Post.

If the plans go ahead Hapoel Katamon will take the place of Hapoel Mevasseret-Abu Ghosh in Liga Alef, the fourth tier of Israeli soccer, from next season.
