Tzipi Obziler is only one win away from being ranked among the top 100 players in the world after she defeated Vasilisa Bardina 6-1, 6-2, in an amazing 47 minutes on Wednesday and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Sony Ericsson International tournament in Bangalore, India.
The 33-year-old Israeli, who began playing professional tennis in 1990, will play in a WTA tournament quarterfinal for a second straight week after reaching the last eight in Pattaya, Thailand, and is hoping to reach a semifinal in a tour tournament for the second time in her career in India.
"I made very few mistakes and played my usual style of tennis," said Obziler, who is currently ranked 117th in the world.
"I felt very good on the court today and that's why everything worked out. My fitness coach, Yuval Higar, and I watched Bardina play yesterday [Tuesday] and prepared a game plan which worked excellently. I'm feeling good and looking forward to my next match."
Obziler will play the winner of match between Su-Wie Hsieh (145) and Yung-Jan Chan (79) in the last eight.
Bardina (63) didn't know what hit her at the start of Wednesday's match, with Obziler winning the first five games of the first set. The Russian finally got on the board in the sixth game of the set, but the Israeli wrapped up the set in the following game.
After splitting the first two games of the second set, the Israeli reeled off four consecutive games.
