British Airways buys private French carrier
According to the agreement, L'Avion will operate three daily flights between Paris and New York with three Boeing 757s.
British Airways has purchased the French luxury airline company L'Avion for $54 million.
L'Avion, a private carrier that owns and operates two Boeing 757 aircraft that fly from Orly International Airport in Paris and Newark International Airport in New York, will be merged with British Airways' recently launched subsidiary OpenSkies.
OpenSkies recently instituted a daily flight between Orly Airport and JFK in New York.
"L'Avion established a successful route amidst the flying business market and the luxury clientele within a relatively short period of time," British Airways chief Willy Walsh said. "Purchasing L'Avion will enable a more frequent operation of flights between Paris and New York amidst L'Avion's clientele."
According to the agreement, L'Avion will operate three daily flights between Paris and New York with three Boeing 757s.
L'Avion is the brand name of Elysiar, a company owned by Société de Participation Aérienne, which launched its operation in January 2007. Its aircraft sport 90 seats, all of which are business-class level. The company is based in Paris and employs 77 workers.
