Ministry seeks 2.8 million tourists

The Tourism Ministry will present a work plan for 2008, including goals to bring 2.8 million visitors to Israel next year and up to 5 million tourists by 2012.

The Tourism Ministry today will present a work plan for 2008, including goals to bring 2.8 million visitors to Israel next year and up to 5 million tourists by 2012. Tourism Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich will present the plan to the Knesset Economics Committee. He is to stress the importance of expanding the financial contribution of the tourism industry to the Israeli economy through the creation of more jobs all over the country. Aharonovich also will raise burning issues such as the need to increase the marketing abroad of Israel as a tourist destination, preparation for the predicted shortage of hotel rooms, further developing of tourism in the periphery and training more manpower with an emphasis on the quality of the service for the tourists.
