The Tourism Ministry has invited Israeli academic institutions that teach tourism or tourism-related subjects to submit research proposals in the tourism field. Those selected will receive part of NIS 100,000 in ministry funding.
In a meeting with heads of Israeli higher educational institutions a few months ago, it was decided to establish an academic forum that would advise the ministry and work to leverage the local tourism industry.
"Investing in research and development will support expansion of the industry," Tourism Ministry director-general Shaul Tzemach said Monday.
A committee will approve research projects according to their potential to yield profits, solve problems, scientific innovation, and use of existing infrastructures.
