Shortly after a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip stuck southern Israel early Thursday morning, the Israel Air Force responded by attacking a weapons manufacturing target in Gaza.

The site belonged to Hamas and was located in the central part of the coastal territory, according to the IDF. No injuries or damage were caused by the rocket fire.

Although no group claimed responsibility immediately after the attack, the army said that it views the “Hamas terrorist organization as solely responsible for what happens in Gaza.”

The rocket was fired from Gaza just after midnight on Wednesday.

It hit in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council area.

The IDF Spokesman said the rocket alert siren did not sound in the border area before impact due to the army’s assessment that the projectile would land in an open area.

Security sources previously said that an August 7 series of rocket attacks was believed to have originated from a terrorist cell working independently from Hamas.

In the past, responsibility for such attacks has been taken by small groups of terrorists affiliated with Islamic State, which oppose the current rulers of the Palestinian coastal enclave.
