Police arrest 2 suspects accused of aiding terrorists in Old City attack

Two suspects accused of transporting and aiding the three terrorists who killed a female Border Police officer at the Old City’s Damascus Gate and wounded two others in the Muslim Quarter last Friday were arrested by police early Wednesday morning.

“Police units in Jerusalem arrested two suspects, including a suspect from Isawiya who transported the terrorists to the area, and the mother of one of the terrorists suspected of supporting terrorism,” said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld. “The two suspects will be brought before Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, where the police and investigating team will request to extend their detention.”
The arrests follow an intensive investigation initiated after the stabbing death of St.- Sgt-Maj. Hadas Malka, 23.
Yoram Halevy, commander of the Jerusalem District, issued a statement after the arrests saying he told Malka’s father he would ensure those responsible for his daughter’s murder would be held to account.
“I promised Hadas’s father that as we have done in previous attacks in Jerusalem, our hands will reach anyone involved in the attack in any way, and anyone who dares to openly express support and utter inflammatory incitement and encouragement for the attack,” said Halevy. “We did the same with the arrest of these two suspects. We will respond with a heavy hand.”
Noting that the three assailants who carried out Friday’s attack came unlawfully from the village of Deir Abu Mash’al near Ramallah, police enforced a massive crackdown over the weekend, arresting 350 Arab suspects who illegally entered Jerusalem from the West Bank.
