8-year-old girl dies after inhaling helium from birthday balloon in Kiryat Ata

An eight-year-old girl died Tuesday afternoon in the northern town of Kiryat Ata after apparently inhaling helium gas from a balloon leftover from her sister's birthday held last week, according to Magen David Adom.

Paramedics arrived at the the family's home to discover the girl unconscious.

After performing resuscitation attempts on the youth, MDA paramedics were forced to pronounce the girl dead at the scene.
