Army Radio to remain part of IDF

Army Radio will remain under the auspices of the IDF and will not be transferred to the Defense Ministry, it was announced on Sunday.
Following consultations between Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, Director General of the Defense Ministry General (Res) Udi Adam, and Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, there were several difficulties which would have arisen if the move were to go through.
According to statement by the Ministry of Defense, it was decided that the move would not only hurt Army Radio’s independence of a public broadcaster and diminish the channel’s “unique character” but the legislative process to move the channel would be difficult to push through.
At the end of January Liberman announced that Army Radio would be transferred to the Defense Ministry following Adam’s recommendation and the advice of IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot and previous IDF manpower chief Maj.Gen. Hagai Topolanksy.
The transfer was set to occur by the beginning of May 2017.
