Giora Romm to retire from Civil Aviation Authority

Civil Aviation Authority Director Giora Romm, 69, announced his attention on Tuesday to resign soon from his position, which he has held for the past five-and-a-half years. Although Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz asked Romm to reconsider his decision, the director said that his decision is finally, the ministry confirmed on Wednesday.

Katz described Romm’s contribution to the Civil Aviation Authority as “nothing less than a revolution,” bringing Israel to one of the most advanced places in the world in this sector. Under Romm’s leadership, the Civil Aviation Authority drafted the open skies agreement with the European Union, and also treated serious problems uncovered by national and international aviation assessors, the ministry said. Today, Ben Gurion Airport is found on the International Civil Aviation Organization’s list of top airports in the world, the ministry added.
