MK Merav Ben-Ari (Kulanu) gave delivered her first daughter on Saturday. Ben-Ari was the first Israeli lawmaker to be single and pregnant for the first time, with a child she plans to raise with a close friend, who is gay.

Ben-Ari wrote in her Twitter account that she is thanking all those who sent their wishes. "As much as I prepared for it, I didn’t understand anything when it happened," she wrote. "She [the baby] was coordinated with the Knesset and came into my life on Saturday morning," she said sarcastically, referring to the fact that the Knesset started its recess on Sunday.

In an interview to the Jerusalem Post in 2016, Ben-Ari explained what brought her to make this move. “When I was 38, I realized time is passing and I’m still not in a serious relationship, but I didn’t want to wait anymore and decided to have a child.  Unlike with men, women don’t have endless time."
