Shin Bet says Palestinian mother of nine wanted to commit suicide over a domestic dispute

A Palestinian mother of nine stabbed an Israeli soldier at the Kalandiya checkpoint to escape a troubled home life, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said.
Security forces immediately arrested the assailant. The soldier was transported to Hadassah University Medical Center, in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem.
From her hospital bed, wounded soldier Salam Fuaz described the attack to Civil Administration head Brig.-Gen.
Ahvat Ben-Hur. She explained that Asia’a Ka’abana, 41, from the village of Duma, had asked her for help as she waited at the checkpoint into northern Jerusalem.
“I went over to her. She wanted me to help her leave the crossing. When I turned around, she stabbed me in the back,” the soldier said.
According to the Shin Bet, Ka’abana had fought with her husband, who threatened to sway authorities to deport her to her family in Jordan. She and her husband had also quarreled the night before over the education of their children.
Under interrogation she said that she had stabbed the soldier to force the soldiers “to shoot her.”
Separately, Israeli security forces arrested 12 Palestinians overnight Monday, including six from the village of Nabi Saleh, who had allegedly thrown stones at a Border Police jeep while at a gas station in early March.
Villagers threw stones and paint bombs at the security forces during the overnight raid. One family filmed the soldiers who entered their home to carry out arrests.
Border police said their forces arrested two minors and four young adults.
“As soon we had incriminating documentation of the rioters who threw stones at the jeep, we knew we would settle a score with them and arrest them,” said the Border Police commander who led the raid.
On Friday, Palestinians held a rally in Nabi Saleh in support of Palestinian prisoners, including those jailed for killing Israelis. Protesters and the IDF clashed at the entry to the village.
Young men and teenaged rioters threw stones at the soldiers, who responded with tear gas.
The village has a long history of such protests.
In the predawn hours of Monday morning, the IDF and Border Police arrested six other Palestinians, four of whom were Hamas members, for alleged security violations.
Security forces also entered the home of the 18-year-old Palestinian teen who stabbed and lightly wounded four people in Tel Aviv on Sunday. The police also extended the teen’s remand until next Monday.
