Palestinians gain observer status at ICC

The International Criminal Court (ICC) officially recognized the Palestinians as observers on Monday, a symbolic move which inches them closer to membership in the organization.
The first-time upgrade was announced at a session of the Assembly of State Parties of the Rome Statute held in New York.
PLO Ambassador to the UN in New York Riyad Mansour said after the meeting that Palestine’s formal inclusion as an observer nation sent “a signal that we are inching closer and closer to the moment of signing on and becoming a state party to the ICC."
