Several patients trapped after roof collapse at South African hospital

JOHANNESBURG - Several patients were trapped after a roof collapsed at Johannesburg's Charlotte Maxeke state hospital, emergency service officials said on Thursday.

"There are several patients trapped. Rescue workers are busy on the scene at the moment trying to ascertain the safety," ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring told Reuters.

It was not immediately clear what caused the roof to cave in or how many people were trapped or injured.
