US consulate in Istanbul issues statement due to 'imminent security threat'

The US consulate in Istanbul is on high alert after having issued an announcement warning of an "imminent security threat," RT news agency reported Saturday.

“Due to information about an imminent security threat against the US Consulate compound, the US Consulate General Istanbul advises all US citizens to avoid the US Consulate today,” according to a statement released Overseas Security Advisory Council.

OSAC advised that all Americans citizens in Turkey “to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster your personal security.”
